Even though there are many initiatives and networks that have been encouraging of women empowerment at work, there is still a wide gap between the gender equality in terms of power. Susan McGalla believes that only a quarter out of the available positions is filled by women and men still holds the majority when it comes to top-level positions. She feels that if the strategies implemented by the network groups were successful, there wouldn’t have been so much gap and that’s why she feels that the real solution is still not addressed. She feels that women still need to work really hard to get what they want in a workplace which might not always be true for men. Even though she has been incredibly successful in her professional career, she has had her own setbacks which she overcame through a robust personality.
She mentions that when she joined American Eagle Outfitters, all the executives were men and by the time she was leaving the organization, she was the president. And the list does not end here; she is the founder of P3 Executive Consulting and also sits on the board of Pittsburgh Steelers as the Vice President of Business Strategy and Creative Development. Although it is not easy for every woman to achieve what she did, it is certainly not impossible. It is only with this approach and thought that she has led many initiatives for women and how she strongly encourages women in the workplace to be supportive of each other.
